Current mood: flirty

so, yesterday in creative writing, we were told to write something about names. not Knowing anything about mine, i decided to looK it up and it was actually pretty interesting....

Katherine (cause they didn't have my name's actual spelling)

-English

-from the GreeK name [translated] AiKaterine

-could have derived from the earlier GreeK name HeKaterine, which came from HeKateros, meaning "each of the two"

-could derive from the goddess Hecate*

-could be related to GreeK AiKia, meaning "torture"

-could be from a Coptic name meaning "my consecration of your name"

-Romans associated it to GreeK Katharos, meaning "pure" and they changed the spelling to Katerina and Katharina to reflect it

-it belonged to a 4th century saint and martyr from Alexandria, who was tortured on the famous Catherine wheel
-it belonged to another saint, Catherine of Siena who was a 14th century mystic
-it belonged to two empresses of Russia and 3 of Henry VIII's 6 wives

*Hecate

-from GreeK HeKate, possibly derived from HeKas meaning "far off"
-In GreeK mythology, Hecate was a goddess associated with witchcraft, tombs, demons, and the underworld.

I mean,
I guess it just goes to show you
That a name can have a lot of different meanings
I mean,
"pure?" "torture?" "far off?" "my consecration of your name?" "each of the two?"
How are these in any means related to each other?
Yet, they all evolve down to one name
weird.
And then, I wonder if my parents Knew when naming me
That they were distantly relating me to a goddess of witchcraft
ThinKing about that, it's Kinda cool
I Know that all that stuff's against what's in the Bible,
and that it's considered demonic and all,
but, I mean, there has to be something to it all, right?
otherwise, why would people have held on to it all these years?
why is there a whole religion based on it?
Kinda maKes you thinK....
what were your parents thinKing when they named you??
